Rented Accommodation
Renting a property gives you one less thing to worry about. Residents can enjoy the same great quality of living without the extra concern of owning a property. And, because we are a Housing Association, all of our profits go back into developing our properties and facilities.
Rockdale has four developments of rented accommodation all on Rockdale Road; The Pleasaunce, Rockdale Gardens and Beatrice Wilson. The apartments are all either studios or one-bedroomed giving you a choice of what will suit you best. Each month rent, service and support charges are paid to Rockdale and this includes some bills, upkeep of communal areas, as well as maintenance of the gardens, laundry rooms, lifts and external window cleaning.
Beatrice Wilson
Beatrice Wilson is our largest building within Rockdale and is home to 50 residents. The iconic curved building is named after our founder and consists of three levels served by staircases and lifts and also houses Beatrice Wilson Common Room. This is where you will find so many activities going on during the week as well as our subsidised lunch service providing hot meals 5 days a week. Also in this building is a guest flat for friends and family to stay in, a laundry, a computer room and a library to relax and read in. There are fully equipped bathrooms and shower rooms for any resident who may wish to use them, one of which has been adapted for disabled use. At night the main doors of the building are closed to non-residents for extra security and therefore only people that are invited in by residents have access in the evening. Residents are therefore confident that they are safe in their homes at night yet can come and go as they wish with their own keys.
Rockdale Gardens
Rockdale Gardens consists of four two-storey buildings containing studio and one-bedroom apartments which were constructed by Beatrice Wilson in 1968. Many of the apartments have their own front doors rather than being inside a block and most ground floor apartments include a small outside space for you to have a few potted plants or a seat to sit out in the sunshine. Rockdale Gardens also houses a laundry room which is available for all residents to use as well as a guest flat for visiting friends and relatives to stay in.
The Pleasaunce
The Pleasaunce sits at the top of Rockdale Road, close to our main office, The Lodge. There are 19 one-bedroomed flats with their own sitting room, kitchen and bathroom. First floor flats are only accessible via stairs. These apartments were the first supported living accommodation to be built by Beatrice Wilson in 1958. As with all of our properties, The Pleasaunce is double glazed and has heating and hot water supplied from a central boiler.
Stable Court
Stable Court is our smallest building on Rockdale Road built in 1991 with just 6 one-bedroomed apartments, one of which is suitable for a disabled person. There is a balcony area to the rear for residents to enjoy and the first floor is accessible via stairs and a lift. It stands where the stable block of the original old house once was, hence its name.

Your application will be checked against our criteria within our Admissions Policy and we can then arrange a time to discuss your application further. This will help us to assess what Priority Band your application falls into.
Priority Bands are categorised from A-D with applicants in category A having the highest priority and those in band D the lowest. Needs are assessed in five areas; housing tenure, current accommodation, medical health, social and welfare needs and your financial situation. Couples will be assessed and banded separately and the highest priority applied. If your circumstances change once your application has been banded you must let us know so that we can review your application. We may ask you to complete a new application form to ensure your banding is correct if your application is over two years old.
Bidding processes then come into place. Bidding does not involve any financial transaction; it simply means that you have expressed your interest in a property. All ‘bids’ will then be reviewed and the highest priority or person who has been waiting longest in the highest band will be notified to view the property. There is no limit to how many properties you may bid for and you will not be penalised for bidding and then refusing a property.
